Apple Pay in the Philippines: How Merchants Can Prepare
May 28, 2026

Overview
As of January 2026, BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto E. Tangonan publicly confirmed that Apple Pay is free to launch anytime in the local market, with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) classifying it as a technology service provider rather than an Operator of Payment System (OPS), a position the central bank had first established in mid-2025.
For Filipino customers, this is a long-awaited announcement. Locals have rapidly adapted to contactless payments using their mobile phones since Google Pay launched in the Philippines on November 18, 2025, and demand for Apple's equivalent is high.
For the local merchants, this raises a crucial question: “Is your payment infrastructure ready for the launch of Apple Pay in the Philippines?”.
When is Apple Pay Launching in the Philippines?
While no official launch date has been confirmed by Apple, Apple Pay is now being targeted for a Q3 2026 rollout as banks and payment players complete their technical preparations and expand merchant acceptance.
This doesn't mean merchants cannot prepare ahead. Merchants who wait for the official launch announcement to start upgrading their systems risk missing out on the initial wave of transaction volume — as seen with the Google Pay launch. The rational strategy is to ensure your payment partner (PSP) has the capabilities in place now, so you can simply "switch on" the feature when it arrives.
Here is how Fiuu merchants can ensure they are covered on all fronts.
Online Payments with Apple Pay (E-commerce)
For e-commerce businesses, Apple Pay is a powerful tool against cart abandonment and drop-offs. It allows customers to verify and approve payment transactions via Face ID or Touch ID, bypassing the need to type out card details or search for their physical cards to checkout.
This one-click checkout is powered by tokenization and Apple’s built-in privacy standards, making it secure and convenient for both the merchant and the customer.
If you are already integrated with Fiuu’s payment gateway, your core integration requirements are already fulfilled. Once the launch date is confirmed, all you need to do is to contact us to enable Apple Pay at checkout.
In-person Payments with Apple Pay (POS & Virtual Terminal)
For physical retail, Apple Pay helps to improve checkout speed and shorten in-person queues. It allows customers to complete payments using only their iPhone or Apple Watch, authorized by Face ID or Touch ID.
This payment method relies on Near Field Communication (NFC) to transmit information from the iPhone or Apple Watch to the payment terminal.
For merchants already using a Fiuu physical terminal or Virtual Terminal (VT), you are already equipped to accept NFC payments via Apple Pay.
Integrate Today, Be Ready When It Launches.
When Apple Pay goes live in the Philippines, you shouldn't be scrambling to integrate, you should be ready to accept payments.
As the leading Payment Service Provider (PSP) in Southeast Asia, Fiuu is already powering Apple Pay transactions for merchants across Malaysia and Singapore with our future-proof payment infrastructure.
