INDUSTRY NEWS
Singaporeans Led in Digital Wallet Adoption but AI Commerce Trust Lags
Singaporeans show strong demand for integrated digital wallets, but privacy concerns and a preference for human control continue to limit enthusiasm for AI-powered commerce. Research by Ant International and S&P Global surveyed 6,000 consumers across nine markets. Across the full sample, 63% used mobile payments for most transactions while travelling, yet 53% cited concerns about merchant acceptance. While 81% used AI for travel discovery and planning, only 26% expressed interest in AI handling payments and autonomous decisions. For retailers, restaurants and tourism businesses, these findings suggest prioritising familiar payment options and addressing security concerns while keeping customers in control of payment decisions.
Digital payment activity in the Philippines continued to grow, with InstaPay and PESONet processing ₱22.12 trillion from January to August 2026, up 44.72% from the same period last year. Citing Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas data, The Manila Times reports that transaction volume more than doubled to 5.77 billion. InstaPay drove much of the volume growth, while PESONet continued to support higher-value transfers for businesses, institutions and government agencies. For businesses preparing for the final quarter, this growing use of electronic payments reinforces the value of reviewing how they accept customer payments, manage supplier transfers and match incoming funds to orders.
