INDONESIAN QR CODE PAYMENTS TO LAUNCH IN CHINA BY THE END OF 2025
Indonesia’s central bank, Bank Indonesia, plans to launch the Indonesian Standard QR Code payment system (QRIS) in China by the end of 2025. Testing has been underway since August 2025 with the People’s Bank of China, the Indonesian Payment System Association, UnionPay International, and local providers. Bank Indonesia said it is in the final phase of sandbox trials and will proceed to full rollout once requirements are met. The launch will enable Indonesians to make QRIS payments in China, following successful cross-border adoptions in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, while boosting financial inclusion and reducing costs.
