Turning More Payment Opportunities into Business Growth Across Southeast Asia with Fiuu
Dear Valued Merchants and Partners,
Business growth is increasingly shaped by how readily a company can respond when customer demand changes, new markets open, or sales activity moves beyond familiar settings. Payments form an important part of that commercial readiness. Businesses need the reach, flexibility, and reliability to complete transactions whenever opportunities arise, without making everyday payment management more complicated. Fiuu works as a regional payment partner to help businesses turn more of these opportunities into sustainable growth while remaining prepared for the different ways customers choose to transact across Southeast Asia.

Fiuu Secures JCB Direct Acquiring License in Three ASEAN Markets
Fiuu has secured a JCB Direct Acquiring license as a Regional Acquirer across Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. This milestone enables Fiuu to connect directly with JCB and process transactions in-house, reducing reliance on intermediaries and giving merchants a more dependable way to accept JCB payments across online and offline channels. Fiuu is also actively working to extend this capability to Thailand as part of its regional acquiring expansion.
“This milestone reflects the next phase of Fiuu’s regional acquiring growth. Businesses expanding across Southeast Asia need payment partners that can combine local market understanding, direct scheme connectivity, and operational depth. Our direct acquiring relationship with JCB strengthens that foundation, allowing us to support merchants with broader acceptance, greater consistency, and the confidence to serve customers across both digital and physical commerce,” said Eng Sheng Guan, CEO of Fiuu.

Malaysia To Phase Out Proprietary QR Code by June 2028
Bank Negara Malaysia has set 30 June 2028 as the deadline for existing proprietary QR payment networks to be discontinued under its Interoperable Fund Transfer Framework. During the transition, affected institutions will not be allowed to onboard new merchants onto these networks. Banks offering QR payments must participate in the shared payment infrastructure, while merchant acquirers must enable their merchants to accept payments from customers of any participating financial institution. Operated by PayNet, the shared infrastructure supports services including DuitNow Transfer and DuitNow QR. The move is intended to reduce payment network fragmentation and create a more interoperable QR payment experience.
PH Banks Enter ‘Freemium Era’ as Free Transfers Force Industry to Rethink How They Make Money
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas continues to target digital payments accounting for 60% to 70% of retail payments by 2028. The article highlights recent moves by Philippine banks to waive or reduce fees for selected InstaPay and PESONet transfers as competition for digital banking customers intensifies. It also refers to BSP Circular No. 1238, which promotes transparent and cost-based pricing for electronic fund transfers rather than requiring all transfers to be free. The development is described as a shift towards a “freemium” banking model, prompting financial institutions to reconsider how they attract customers and generate revenue beyond transfer fees.
